Leeds-based Hessle Audio has been one of our favourite labels for a while now. Run by Ramadanman, Pangaea and Ben UFO (all of whom DJ on Sub FM), it’s become one of the most reliable outputs of challenging, forward-looking dubstep – the sort of stuff Kode 9 means when he talks about dubstep that doesn’t sound like dubstep.
In that sense, they’re spiritually aligned to Hyperdub and Skull Disco, and their last two releases, Ramdanman’s ‘Blimey’ and Martyn’s remix of TRG’s ‘Broken Heart’ are total anthems – the former a former FACT record of the issue and a favourite of Ricardo Villalobos. With the label preparing to release their sixth twelve inch, Pangaea’s ‘Router’, it was the ideal time to approach them about doing a mix.
And here we are – as-yet-unreleased tracks from Vex’d, Untold, Peverelist, Luke.Envoy, Headhunter, Jus Wan and more, with classic Hessle tunes like the aforementioned ‘Blimey’ and ‘Broken Heart’ remix. Download link and track listing follow:
